Department of Legal Affairs was established in 1961 and functions under the Ministry of Law and Justice. It provides legal services, advice, and regulatory guidance to the Government of India across constitutional, administrative, economic, finance, labour, infrastructure, arbitration, and contract law.

About the Opportunity

The Department of Legal Affairs Internship Programme offers law students and graduates practical exposure to legal research, drafting, court procedures, and advisory work across multiple specialized areas of law. Selected interns will work closely with officers in various sections of the Department at central and branch locations.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and referencing work
• Assist in drafting legal opinions and advisory notes
• Support work in constitutional, administrative, finance, economic, labour, infrastructure, arbitration, and contract law
• Collaborate with officers/sections across multiple locations
• Submit monthly reports on assigned research and projects

Eligibility Criteria

• Indian students who have completed:
  • 2nd year of a three-year law degree, or
  • 3rd year of a five-year law degree, or
  • Full law degree from a recognised institution
• Advanced computer skills (MS Office, Adobe, infographics) preferred
