About the Victim Advocacy Project

National Law University, Delhi’s Victim Advocacy Project (VAP) is a justice-focused initiative designed to strengthen victims’ access to the criminal justice system through structured legal representation and sustained advocacy.

The project seeks to bridge longstanding gaps in victim participation by providing continuous professional legal support - from FIR to trial, appeal, and rehabilitation.

Over the next three years, VAP aims to:

  • Support over 450 victims of crime
  • Build a trained cadre of Litigation Fellows and Paralegals
  • Generate evidence-based insights to inform legal reform

By combining field-based litigation with research and policy engagement, VAP seeks to create a scalable model of victim advocacy for replication across India.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • LL.M. (Criminal Law or related specialisation) or equivalent Master’s degree in Law, Social Sciences, or related fields
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong understanding of victim-centric criminal jurisprudence and victim rights frameworks
  • Experience in legal research, drafting, and preparation of court pleadings
  • Ability to supervise litigation teams (Fellows, Paralegals, Counsel)
  • Experience in mentoring or training junior legal professionals
  • Updated knowledge of new criminal codes and special legislations, along with court procedures
  • Strong organisational, coordination, and case-management skills
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, AI tools, graphic design tools, and social media outreach
  • Experience working with grassroots organisations, legal services authorities, etc.
  • Commitment to ethical, trauma-informed, and rights-based legal practice

Key Responsibilities

The Project Supervisor (Litigation) will:

  • Oversee and coordinate all litigation work under VAP
  • Supervise and mentor Litigation Fellows and Paralegals
  • Coordinate with collaborators including community organisations and legal services authorities
  • Ensure implementation of victim-centric litigation strategies aligned with new criminal laws
  • Collaborate with legal institutions and curate mentors for Litigation Fellows
  • Conduct routine visits to courts across Delhi for supervision and case management
  • Assign and monitor case progress; maintain litigation records and documentation
  • Act as liaison between the litigation team, project leadership, and the University
  • Ensure adherence to professional standards, timelines, and project objectives

Three-year engagement (extendable subject to University approval).

Stipend

₹1,00,000 per month
