About the Programme: "Enhancing Access to Justice"

This dedicated project aims to provide legal assistance and case review for undertrial prisoners at Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad. The focus is on identifying eligible prisoners, filing bail applications, and strengthening coordination between prison authorities, legal services (DLSA), and the courts to expedite justice.

Position Details & Eligibility

Mandatory Requirements (All Roles):

• Language: Working knowledge of Gujarati is essential.
• Legal Roles: Must be eligible to appear before courts as of the application date.
• Social Work: Post-graduate degree in Social Work or allied disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Manager: Primary liaison and execution lead; supervising Legal and Social Work Fellows under the Project Director.
• Project Fellow (Legal): Drafting, filing, and arguing bail petitions in competent courts and the Gujarat High Court.
• Project Fellow (Social Work): Conducting need assessments in prisons, providing psycho-social support, and managing detailed field-visit files.

General Terms & Conditions

• Tenure: Initial appointment for 11 months (extendable based on performance).
• Work Preference: Project Fellows (Legal) may continue independent practice provided project work remains the priority.
• Nature of Post: Purely project-based; not a permanent university or foundation employee role.
