The Department of Legal Affairs was established in 1961 and functions under the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. It is responsible for handling litigation, providing legal advice, and supporting policy formulation for the Union Government.
About the internship
The Department of Legal Affairs Internship Programme aims to familiarise law students and graduates with government legal work, court functioning, and legal advisory processes across multiple domains, including constitutional, administrative, financial, and commercial laws.

Eligibility
• Indian students who have completed
1. 2nd year of a 3-year LL.B. programme, or
2. 3rd year of a 5-year LL.B. programme
• Law graduates from recognised universities
• Advanced computer skills preferred, including MS Office, infographics tools, and Adobe software
Duration
• One month
• Internship commences from the first working day of the selected month
Mode and location
• Physical, full-time internship
• Deployment locations include
1. Main Secretariat, New Delhi
2. Supreme Court Central Agency Section
3. Delhi High Court Litigation Section
4. Branch secretariats at Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru
Seats available
• 50 interns per month
Key conditions
• Office hours from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
• Minimum 90 percent attendance mandatory for certification
• Formal dress code required
• Interns must arrange their own accommodation
• Internship does not guarantee future employment
Honorarium
• ₹1,000 payable on successful completion of the internship
