About the Centre for Child and the Law (CCL)

The Centre for Child and the Law (CCL) is a multidisciplinary research centre at NLSIU that focuses on advancing child rights in India.

CCL combines:

to promote social justice, human rights, and improved quality of life for children.

About the Opportunity

The Centre for Child and the Law is inviting applications for the position of Research Assistant (Legal).

This is a full-time role based at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru. The selected candidate will contribute to ongoing socio-legal and policy research, training, and advocacy initiatives, particularly under the theme of right to food and nutrition.

The Research Assistant will work closely with the CCL research team and support various projects and policy engagements.

Eligibility

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law

Desirable:

  • Master’s Degree in Law or in a social science or related discipline

Experience

Essential:

  • 1–3 years of work experience in policy or socio-legal research

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the social development sector, particularly in research or training roles

Skills & Competencies

Essential:

  • Strong ability to produce high-quality research reports
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Logical thinking and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel within and outside Karnataka

Desirable:

  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills
  • Good communication and organisational abilities
  • Time management skills
  • Experience in legal or policy drafting

Key Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will:

  • Conduct policy research on issues related to food security and child rights
  • Develop research tools for data collection and analysis
  • Prepare research reports based on qualitative and quantitative data
  • Support multi-stakeholder engagement with government departments and partners
  • Assist in developing training modules for CCL programmes
  • Contribute to academic publications, blogs, and research outputs
  • Support the organisation of events, consultations, and stakeholder discussions
  • Perform other tasks related to ongoing research and advocacy initiatives
