About NITI Aayog
NITI Aayog serves as the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. It plays a central role in catalysing economic development and fostering cooperative federalism by actively involving State Governments in the economic policymaking process through a bottom-up approach.
About the Opportunity
NITI Aayog initiated its Internship Scheme in 2015 to engage students pursuing Undergraduate, Graduate, Postgraduate degrees, or Research/Ph.D. programmes from recognized universities and institutions in India and abroad.
The internship offers exposure to public policy formulation and governance processes at the national level.
Duration
The internship tenure ranges from a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 6 months.
Eligibility Criteria
Bonafide students from recognized universities/institutions in India or abroad are eligible, subject to the following conditions:
- Undergraduate Students:
Must have completed or appeared for the term-end examinations of the 2nd year/4th semester of their bachelor’s degree and secured at least 85% (or equivalent) in Class 12. - Postgraduate/Research Students:
Must have completed or appeared for the term-end examinations of the 1st year/2nd semester of their postgraduate programme, or be pursuing Research/Ph.D., and secured at least 70% (or equivalent) in Graduation. - Recent Graduates/Postgraduates:
Students who have completed their final exams and are awaiting admission to higher studies may apply, provided they have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all years/semesters of Graduation/Postgraduation up to the date of application. - The gap between the declaration of the final result and the intended month of internship should not exceed 6 months.
(For example, if results are declared in June, the candidate may apply for internships starting until December.)
Application Procedure
- Applications must be submitted online only through the official website of NITI Aayog.
- The last date to apply is 10 March 2026.
- Applications can be submitted up to six months in advance, but not later than two months before the desired internship month.
- Applicants must clearly specify their area of interest.
- A candidate may apply only once in a financial year.
Important
Selected candidates must produce original mark sheets and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their college/institution at the time of joining (as per Annexure ‘C’ of the official notification). Failure to do so will result in cancellation of candidature.
