The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was established under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, with a mission to provide free legal services to marginalized communities and organize Lok Adalats for amicable dispute resolution. Eligibility Criteria
The internship is open to law students enrolled in recognized universities or colleges in India.
Who Can Apply?
- Students pursuing:
- A Three-Year LL.B Course.
- A Five-Year Integrated Law Course.
- Preference will be given to students in:
- The 2nd or 3rd year of the Three-Year LL.B Course.
- The 4th or 5th year of the Five-Year Integrated Law Course.
Duration
The internship lasts for one month (four weeks) and begins on the 1st day of the month. This full-time program requires physical attendance at NALSA’s offices and other designated locations.
Application Process
Interested students can apply online through the official NALSA website (https://nalsa.gov.in/). Applications are accepted two months prior to the intended internship month.
For example, if you wish to intern in July, applications will be open from May 1st to June 30th.
Steps to Apply:
- Fill out the online application form available on NALSA’s website.
- Upload the following mandatory documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume.
- Expression of Interest: A one-page write-up explaining your interest and suitability for the program.
- No Objection Certificate (NOC): Issued by your institution’s Dean, Head of Department, Internship & Placement Committee, or another authority, mentioning your name and course details.
Selection Process:
- Selection is based on individual merit.
- Decisions made by NALSA’s Competent Authority are final.
Internship Guidelines
To ensure a successful internship experience, interns must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Attendance:
- 90% attendance is mandatory for successful completion.
- Interns are advised not to apply during college exams.
- Working Hours:
- Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Second and fourth Saturdays are holidays).
- Dress Code:
- Formal black-and-white attire as prescribed by the Bar Council of Delhi.
- Accommodation and Expenses:
- Interns must arrange their own accommodation and travel.
- No stipend, TA/DA, or remuneration will be provided.
- Equipment:
- Interns must carry their own laptops for completing tasks.
- Field Visits:
- Interns will travel locally to visit courts, legal aid offices, mediation centers, and other institutions.
Internship Schedule
The internship offers a comprehensive learning experience through a mix of office work and field visits:
- Orientation Session:
· On Day 1, interns will be introduced to NALSA’s functioning, objectives, schemes, and activities.
- Reading Materials:
· Interns will receive SOPs, modules, statistical reports, and other resources related to NALSA’s operations.
- Field Visits (10 Days): Visits include:
· Delhi State Legal Services Authority.
· District Legal Services Authority.
· Legal Aid Defense Counsel Office.
· National Lok Adalat.
· Supreme Court Mediation Centre.
· Supreme Court Library.
· Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.
- Interaction with NALSA Team:
At the end of the program, interns will participate in an interactive session with NALSA officials followed by a group photograph.
- Submission of Report:
Interns must submit a detailed report on their work at the end of the internship.
Certificate of Internship
Interns who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate from NALSA. However:
- Certificates are awarded only if interns meet attendance requirements (90%).
- No letters of recommendation will be provided by NALSA.
