The Income Tax Department is inviting applications for the post of Young Professional (Legal) at Chandigarh under its Young Professional Scheme.
About the Opportunity
The Young Professional Scheme aims to strengthen the Department’s representation before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) by engaging qualified young legal and accountancy professionals. Selected candidates will assist departmental officers in tax litigation, legal research, and case preparation.
Position Details

- Salary: ₹60,000/-
- Contract Period: 1 year (extendable by another year based on performance)
Job Responsibilities
- Assisting CsIT (DR) / Sr. DR before ITAT
- Studying paper books of listed cases
- Analyzing judgments relied upon by assessees
- Researching judgments favourable to the Department
- Identifying distinguishing facts
- Preparing briefing notes and written submissions
- Undertaking legal research on specific tax litigation issues as assigned
Essential Qualifications
- Indian Nationals holding: Graduate / Postgraduate degree in Law (3-year or 5-year LL.B.), or Chartered Accountant qualification
- Minimum 50% marks in the qualifying degree / CA qualification
Preferred Qualifications
- CAs with articleship experience in taxation
- Law graduates/postgraduates with research experience in taxation
- Good ICT skills, communication, and interpersonal abilities
Age Limit
- Not exceeding 35 years as on the date of advertisement
